38 1/2 weeks....Baby time!

Eric's beard he had been growing before Camden came!  He shaved it before going to the hospital.

Check out those long fingers!

Our friends, Neal & Katie, came and visited us at the hospital.

Our little man is here!  He came about 10 days earlier than his due date, but we are so happy to have him and love everything about him!  So here's the story:  I had an appointment for the dr. on the day before he was born, and my dr. had told me that she was on call at the hospital that day so if I was ready, she would send me to the hospital.  I really didn't think she would send me that day, but when we got there she checked me and I was only at a 1, but then she did a sonogram and said that my fluid was really low.  So I had to be hooked up to the monitor to see if I was contracting, and if so, she was going to send me to the hospital.  I was pretty shocked when she told me that, because I hadn't really prepared myself to have a baby that day!  I was thinking all along that he wouldn't come until the next week.  They hooked me up to the monitor and after 10-15 mins came back and said that we needed to go to the hospital because I was contracting and my fluids were low, so she didn't want to put the baby in any danger.
We came home, finished packing my bag, and then headed to the hospital.  We got there about noon, but they didn't start giving me the pitocin until about 2 pm and then a couple of hours later they broke my water.  I really wasn't in a lot of pain, but after they broke my water I started feeling the contractions a lot more.  I asked for my epidural when I was at a 4-5, and they told me I wouldn't have to wait long to get it, but of course the anesthesiologist was called into an emergency so I had to wait even longer!  After getting the epidural I was feeling good, and after getting a second dose I was actually able to sleep for about an hour and a half.  When I woke up my dr. came and checked me and told me I was ready to push!  I thought, awesome, this baby is going to be here soon....and about 3 hours later, he was!  Pushing took longer (and more painful!) than I thought or wanted it to, and he ended up having to be vacuumed out.  He was really low but just wouldn't come out without some help.  It turns out that he had his hand in a fist up by his face and the umbilical cord was wrapped around him, so it was making it really hard for him to come out.  He even had a little bruise on his cheek for a couple of days after where his hand had been.  But he was perfect!  When they plopped him on me it was a little surreal, but also amazing!
We only stayed at the hospital for one night and our friends, Neal & Katie, came to the hospital to visit us the next day and brought lunch.  A few hours later we were heading home!  It was really nice, and a little scary, to be home.  Much more comfortable in my own bed!  My recovery has been really good and fast, and I am very grateful for that.  It is exhausting taking care of a newborn, but we couldn't be happier!   Camden is such a sweet boy, we love him so much!  He is the perfect addition to our family and we feel so blessed to have him.
